Hyundai’s remodeling continues in the interior.

The first thing one notices is the seating. I found the leather on both the top-of-the-line Limited and the cloth in the base GLS trim to be comfortable, straddling that middle ground of not too soft, yet not to hard. And unlike the prior generation’s seating, the side bolsters are significantly larger to support the Sonata’s sportier aspirations. The cloth seats, especially, had a nice grip to them. My only complaint was the lack of lumber support which I could never compensate despite the seat’s numerous settings.
Headroom in front was more than adequate even with the sunroof. Form does affect function, though, for rear passengers as my “faux hawk” and head rubbed against the rakish roofing when I sat in rear. And while the Sonata is classified as a large vehicle by the EPA, it feels less spacious than the similarly classified Honda Accord. A lot that had to do with the more modern dash and center stack design.
Brushed aluminium and piano black plastic inserts nicely framed center stack, HVAC vents, etc. Hyundai was generous with the soft plastics on doors and dash. The overall effect was a more classier car.
Storage was plentiful.
