2010 Volkswagen Beetle: Goodbye, Turtle. Hello, Hare

112 0707 03z 2010 Volkswagen New Beetle Sportwagon Rear Three Quarter Drawing

Say good-bye — again — to the Volkswagen Beetle.
The next Beetle will look nowhere near what has become the "traditional" Beetle look when it is released in 2010, i.e.g, no more turtle-like shape. Instead, be prepared for a sleek, sporty, more "modern" appearance.

The car will be styled in California and engineered in Germany, say Volkswagen execs. Reports are that there will be a hatchback version, then a soft top convertible, and even a wagon. Other future Beetles may include a micro-van, a pickup(!), and — of course — crossover.

Our take? Is this a repeat of the ‘New’ Coke/’Classic’ Coke disaster? We admit that the drawings do look nice. We’ll hold judgement until we see the near-production models.

MMMMMmmm if it is not broke…don’t fix it..name it something else..with all the Disney Herbie movies..VW Beetle is a Mind set..when people say Beetle..there mind thinks Egg shaped..

That is nor will never be a Beetle..You may stop making the ORIGINAL Beetle just when it is getting ready to make a come back..with the gas prices..I never thought of a Beetle for myself..now I am searching every where for a Beetle convertible..and I bet I am not the only one…but it will not be the last not tis it the only mistake the Germans have or will ever make..
The new car may be cool..but it will never ever be a Beetle..
Want to name it after a bug..it looks more like a cat-a-pillar!!! LOL
Good Luck VW…but I would re think the economy..and the bug..maybe not so many smart features..back to a plain jane..with a fancy paint..with the price of gas..I am getting a small car and only a bug is going to do it for me…
