Like the exterior, I found the interior of the 2010 Ford Mustang GT to be clean and simple. Black hard and soft plastics dominated the lower dash and center stack, with aluminum covering the bulk of the upper dash panel, the pedals, while framing the gauges and controls. Previous Ford owners will be familiar with the button layout and even their feel; I’m currently testing a Ford Fusion and quickly noted the similarities. Storage space was plentiful though a bit small for my taste.
Hand-stitched leather on the steering wheel and the bucket seats gave the interior a more richer feel. The striping in the seats matched the car’s exterior, another nice touch. I was surprised how well-lit it was inside: The effect was due to the door panel lights, lit footwells, and cupholders. Lighting, of course, was blue. I played a bit with the MyColor system which allows drivers to customize the lighting of their dashboards. Amusing, but the default colors are fine.
It took me a while to get comfortable with the front seats. I was surprised how flat they felt; I expected something a bit more sculpted especially for a muscle car. I actually preferred the rear seats, which I felt had better bolstering. Oh, and shorter drivers should test the over-the-shoulder seatbelt design.
Center stack was laid out, again, very simply and easy to use.
Steering wheel is tilt-only.
There was no headroom for my six-foot tall frame, as expected, in the rear. The Mustang is a coupe. However, there were plenty of space under the front seats for my feet.
