Value.
I found the word best represented the 2010 Acura MDX as I dropped it off at the garage, an odd choice in the luxury market.
But car buyers in almost all segments are looking to get the best bang for their buck. (Witness Buick and Hyundai’s Genesis lineup.) The 3.7 liter engine, the six-speed automatic transmission, seven-passenger seating, etc., has kept Acura’s largest SUV in competition in its class. The biggest difference came with the technology. Besides the standard AWD, this latest model now adds standard backup camera, sunroof, Xenon HID lighting, tire pressuring monitoring systems, etc., many which cost extra in the competition. Fully equipped, the MDX costs less than $60,000 MSRP.
Besides value, the MDX’s sheetmetal is quite distinct from the competition, which tend to look more hefty and bulbous against the MDX’s more sleek design. Colleagues have likened the 2010 model to a larger RDX. I agree, and think the comparison is flattering. And unlike my impressions of the RDX and the Acura TL sedan, interior quality is uniformally high in the MDX. This, again, adds supports to the MDX’s “value”.
