The debut of Mazda’s latest vehicle for the U.S. market (and no less than by Mazda CEO Yamanuchi) was nearly upstaged by screaming fans of actor Patrick Dempsey.
Not really. Though the Grey’s Anatomy star flashed all over Mazda’s ad screens, the star of the show continued to be the debut of the Mazda2.
Mazda CEO Takashi Yamanuchi actually did the speech; Mazda CEO for North America Jim O’Sullivan did the followed up. Which was little from both men’s parts. Except for the announcement that the Mazda2 would go on sale in late summer next year, they provided no information as engines, transmissions, or pricing. They stated, instead, such details would be forthcoming in the upcoming months.

I also have a picture and video of Patrick Dempsey in my Mazda2 blog post yesterday at http://tomhumbarger.wordpress.com/2009/12/02/zoom-zooming-with-the-2011-mazda2/.
The video shot was ‘accidental’ as Patrick walked into my viewfinder while I was trying to take a video of a new Mazda2.

I don’t get the mystery of the Mazda2, why wouldn’t they have any details available and then trying to distract us from that with McDreamy….shameful….but it looks like it worked for many.
Mazda-what? McDreamy…. *swoon*!
