The era of the resurrection of the muscle car is upon us. Ford intends to release a new Shelby Mustang (one of many); Chrysler will be offering a new Dodge Challenger; and General Motors is getting ready to release a new Chevy Camaro.
The Camaro is expected to be in dealers’ showrooms the first quarter of 2009. That, according to pundits, puts the muscle car way behind its competitors or, heck, behind the times, period. It is believed that new fuel economy standards passed by Congress will adversely impact these cars success.
Sure, there is a lot of interest in the new muscle cars but they better get out pretty soon before potential buyers have a chance to take another look at those signs at gas stations that say $3 a gallon.

A HYBRID CAMARO?! Heresy! I will fall on my sword the day that happens. That will be the day the world stops making senses.
As for outselling the Challenger I think that is a foregone conclusion due to manufacturing constraints with Chrysler. Even though I do think the Challenger is better looking.
As for the Mustang, it can always fall back on those convertible V6 rental sales in Hawaii and Florida.
The Camaro may not ever out-sell the Mustang, but I predict that it will handily out-sell the Challenger, once introduced. Fuel economy? 2-Mode hybrid, or heck, even a diesel model!
