2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser Will Also Not Be Cute

Retro crossover to toughen up to bland standards

2008 Chrysler Pt Cruiser Front Closeup

A spy shot of what could be the next generation Chrysler PT Cruiser has the autosphere buzzing with speculation.According to the Australian Drive, the once compact crossover has grown, expanding pass the also now-large Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV-4 to compete against Mazda’s new CX-7 and the Nissan Murano. A Dodge derivative is also in the works.

The new Sebring’s “World engine” (developed jointly with Hyundai and Mitsubishi) will be one of possibly several engines to power the PT Cruiser. Otherwise, there are few other details.

More images can be found at the article. Our take? After looking over the shots, we feel Chrysler may have made a mistake. The original appeal of the PT Cruiser (and which still attracts buyers) is its retro look. Chrysler, which also produces the stunning retro-stylish 300, looks like it’s joining the clone’ wagontrain dominated by Honda, Hyundai, and Toyota. Please, Chrysler, prove us wrong.
