If a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound?
Maybe we’re being too harsh here regarding this latest incident with Mitsubishi. After all, Mitsubishi is slowly making its way on the up and up. Very slowly.
But in case you are interested, the Baltic Ace, a ship carrying 1,400 vehicles—1,200 of which were Mitsubishis—collided with another ship off the Dutch coast. The Baltic Ace sank in the North Sea; Dutch police are still trying to figure out if they can press charges, as at least four crew members were killed in the incident. Heck, they’re still trying to figure out which one of the two boating outfits is to blame.
The Baltic Ace was carrying cars from Japan and Thailand, which hampered supplies for markets outside North America only. As it is, only the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, Outlander, and Lancer are all made overseas. The Outlander Sport is manufactured in Mitsubishi’s U.S. plant in Normal, Illinois.
All the cars and SUVs on that vessel were insured anyway, so Mitsubishi can’t be fretting too much. But maybe you are. Maybe you were looking for the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo of your dreams to come stateside. Hold on. Wait a little longer. We’re sure Mitsubishi won’t let you down.
