2008 Audi R8: Needs Some Roughness

Motor Trend Magazine had a chance to test drive the Audi R8, the brand’s answer to Porsche’s 911 and even the Lamborghini Gallardo (though the latter’s more powerful).

So how did the R8 do under MT’s experienced and cynical hands? Very well, thank you. First, they found it surprisingly room for such a car. Those feelings improved on the race track as they found the R8 easy to drive, telling the driver, for example, in advance when it was about to understeer while keeping the entire experience under control. That included braking: the disc brakes did not fade despite the grueling tests.

Biggest issue was the steering; the staff found little connection to the road. Though MT praised how easy it was to drive the R8, apparently too much “ease” is not a virtue for a supercar.
