Is the GMC Acadia a luxury vehicle of the likes of an Acura MDX or a Lexus? Some say yes.

Media reviews of the vehicle have been, surprisingly, kind. The Acadia, the first crossover ever sold by the GMC truck brand, is powered by a 3.6 liter V-6 engine that generates 275 horsepower and has a six-speed automatic transmission jointly developed with Ford. Fuel economy has been rated in the high teens in the city and mid-20s on the highway. It offers 10 percent to 17 percent more cargo room than the Tahoe and Yukon and the third row seat folds onto the floor. With a price range of $30,000 to $45,000, the Acadia includes such safety features as anti-skid technology StabiliTrak and side-curtain airbags.

Production started in mid-November and the model is just now reaching dealerships. Saturn is selling a mechanically similar model called the Outlook. Buick will sell a fancier version called the Enclave later this year.

Our take? The Acadia hasn't been out long enough to get reviews from the common driver. Let's wait a while and see what they have to say.
