According to the NPD Group, year-to-date sales of single CD players through September 2006 have dropped 16.4 percent in dollars and 15.3 percent in unit sales to consumers compared with the same period in 2005.

Thus, major car audio suppliers Alpine, Panasonic, and Kenwood will be cutting back on the number of CD players they will be offering in 2007. Moreover, Audiobahn will cease altogether to offer head units next year. Similar actions were taken by Rockford Fosgate and New Zealand-based Fusion.

Our take? Look for lower prices on the CD receivers they do offer.
