Infant seat makers challenge popular magazine?s test results

Consumer Report Issues Failing Grade on 75 Percent Car Seats

In the latest issue of Consumer Report, the popular product magazine tested 12 infant car seats where 9 of them—75 percent—failed.

Note that the seats had already passed federal safety standards. Consumer Reports, on the other hand, used different standards that applied for new car tests. The Evenflo Discovery, Graco SafeSeat, and the Britax Companion were among the nine that failed CR’s tests methodology. The makers point out their seats have successfully met or even exceeded government standards. They also dispute the magazine’s using new standards, pointing out that the higher speeds used may not result in a safer seat.

Our take? We’re taking a neutral position until CR explains why it thought it changed the test rules.

Oh my, oh my. Its good that they had another new car test because if they dont..parents will always expect that their infats are really safe not only for the infants seat but for all exterior car parts.

I don't know, AutoGeek. Sounds like CR's trying to "force" the government by picking on the businesses.
