Not content with just 510 bhp? Of course not—Viper owners crave more.
You’d think Dodge Viper owners would already be strutting pretty with over 500 horses at their disposal every time they mash down on the accelerator pedal. But nooooo, it seems, because the engineering wizards at Daimler Chrysler have managed to squeeze out an extra 90 brake-horsepower and added a tenth of a liter’s displacement to that already exceptionally performing V-10 engine of theirs. Now it displaces a full 8.4 liters, and pumps out 600 bhp when the pedal’s on the metal.
If acceleration’s your thing, you’ll see plenty of it as you zoom off from a standing stop: the Viper snaps to attention by reaching 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. The brakes are equally impressive, stopping the car (plus its occupants) from the aforementioned 60 mph in 100 feet. Now, if it’s 100 mph you are interested in reaching, then you can accelerate to 100 and slam on the brakes knowing that you’ll be back to a dead stop in “just over 12” seconds.
Our take? For those with a need for speed, this is just the ticket. (Come to think of it, ticket may also be a word Viper drivers hear a lot.) After all, Viper owners would probably say that it’s a shame to have 650 lb./ft. of torque go to waste.
