Ford Taurus, HUMMER H1 Close Door Behind Them

Some car models won't be back in 2007. And it may be surprising to some that many of them were some of the industry's biggest at one time or another.

For example, the Ford Taurus is bowing out. First launched in 1986, the Taurus actually attracted some excitement because of its sleek styling.

For many years it was the most popular sedan in the country with Ford selling nearly 25 million units in the course of its lifetime. But foreign car makers targeted it and Toyota's Camry took away the title of best seller in 1997.

You can also say good-bye to the first U.S. hybrid, the Honda Insight, and the Hummer H1. The Insight was unveiled in 1999 and taunted by Honda as the most fuel efficient car on the road. This car's demise may be blamed on the popularity of hybrids today. It was too cramped and larger models were introduced like the Honda Civic hybrid.

While the Hummer H1 is being dropped, the smaller version Hummer H3 has proven to be a success because of its smaller midsize.

Even Porsche was touched. No more Carrera GT.

Our take? With the once dead Dodge Avenger coming back, it will be interesting to see if any of the above (can you say Taurus?) will someday be back as well.
