The Car Connection wrote about and posted some spyshots of a possible new crossover (CUV) from Dodge.
There is no official news about the CUV which is known internally as JC49. According to Dodge representatives, the camouflaged vehicle is a design concept which may go into production some time in 2008.
Interestingly, details are quite plentiful. JC49 is based on the new Chrysler Sebring and upcoming Dodge Avenger chassis. Sheetmetal hints design cues based on the popular Dodge Caliber (pictured). Several models were seen running about leading to speculation that 4 and 6 cylinder models will be offered for the model. Finally, the article quotes that Dodge will price the CUV at $20,000, which will be a steal depending on engines and available options.
Spy shots, due to copyright issues, can be found at the link. Our take? Chrysler has not been faring well against its competition in the CUV segment, and the new Ford Edge as well as perennial favourite, the Toyota Highlander, have pushed it aside. While we like the Dodge brand’s current offerings (Caliber, Nitro), it remains to be seen if the company may be stretching itself at a time its quality is, again, under question by both critics and the consumer.
