Most modified pickups are either youthful, flashy, or just plain strange. Chevrolet, though, took a rare path--creative--for its new Colorado Crew Cab Z71 Plus.
GM engineers and tuners took a 2007 Colorado crew cab pickup and then took parts from the Hummer H3 like the 5.3 liter V-8 engine commonly found on the Silverado. Of course, it helps when the Colorado and Hummer H3 are built on the same assembly line and share front and rear suspension which enhances the off-road capability of the pickup.
The aftermarket was a source of a lot elements of the truck. The Z71 Plus rides on 20-inch machined alloy wheels, has a roof-mounted light bar, cat-back exhaust system, leather seats, a Kenwood audio system, and Megellan portable GPS navigation system. A custom front fascia, hood and fenders gives it a more sporty appearance.
The vehicle was exhibited at the SEMA Show.
Our take? It just goes to show you that a little imagination, a pinch of this and a little bit of that, and you have one stylish and sporty pickup truck. With all of its divisions and the aftermarkets reservoir of items, it's a wonder why GM hasn't used this concept before.
