Toyota in South Africa is recalling its 2006 models of the Corolla RunX for inspection. The cars affected were manufactured between January 4 and October 4 2006.
The issue is the rear axle beam. Reports say that dealers will need 30 minutes to inspect the rear axle to see if the front bush mountings have been improperly positioned on the rear axle beam. If the mountings are improperly set, the bush could split open and the front section of the axle beam could come loose.
If the axle needs to be replaced, the work is expected to take less than two hours. The repair will be made at no cost to the owner.
About 29,315 vehicles are said to be involved in the recall. Currently, there have been reports of only five failures and none resulted in an accident.
