WardAuto.com reports that Nissan will be adding another plant for the manufacturing of the company's all new Versa compact five door hatchback and sedan.

Inventory of the Versa has been tight ever since its launch in June. Currently, there is an 18 day supply of the car in the U.S. Production is scheduled to start in March next year at a plant at Cuernavaca, Mexico, about 50 miles south of Mexico City. The added production will create about 1,500 jobs at Cuernavaca.

The Cuernavaca plant began operation in 1966 as the first wholly owned Nissan plant outside of Japan. The plant currently produces the Nissan Tsuru car and the D21 chassis light duty truck for the Mexican market; it has produced more than 1.4 million vehicles during its 40 years in existence. Nissan plans to start exporting the new Versas to the U.S. in April, 2007.
