Chrysler is using music podcasts to promote its 2007 Chrysler Sebring as it tries to expand either its marketshare or segment. According to the automaker, the comnpany plans to release 12 monthly half-hour podcasts featuring such artists as Johnny Cash and Miles Davis. The former, for example, will include full-length songs and interviews with the late singer as well as family members and collaborators.
Other artists to be featured include Gloria Estefan, Journey, Tony Bennett, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Rock River Music, San Francisco, California, will produce the podcasts.
The podcasts are targeting professionals between the ages of 35 and 54 with a median annual household income of $60,000. Our take is that it's a smart marketing as more people switch to their ipods for their music instead of the radio. We reserve, though, judgement on its effectiveness. The new Sebring is quite distinct in appearance; we're currently split on its appeal (or lack of).
