Jaguar has announced that the successor to its S-Type vehicle will be called the Jaguar XF.

To be built in Castle Bromwich, near Birmingham, England, the XF is scheduled for sale in Spring 2008.

It is said that the car will be lower, leaner and meaner looking than the S-Type and is supposed to rival the 5-Series. Plans call for a formal unveiling next Autumn.

Jaguar Car's managing director Bibiana Boeric said that the new sports saloon will get people to thinking that Jaguar is daring and different again. He promises that people who like Jaguar's new XK will certainly like the XF.

In additional news from Jaguar, the head of the company's design team, Ian Callum, received a Royal Designer for Industry Award from the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce (RSA). Callum started his career at Ford in 1979 and joined Jaguar in 1999. He has been working on the X-Type as well as the S-Type facelift as well as the R Coupe, RD-6, lightweight coupe concept cars, and the new XK. The award is in recognition of the XK.
