Add the name Giugiaro to this 2007 Ford Mustang concept and it shows what Mustangs have never shown before -- horse-hide interior, huge glass roof, carbon fiber fenders, electric scissor doors.
To create the unique look, the Giugiaro team pulled the body panels in, reduced the rear overhang, and widened the car by 1.2-inches in the front and 3.1-inches in the rear. The result resembles the 1970s Boss Mustang. Joining Giorgetto Giugiaro in the development of this concept car are his son Fabrizio and the designers at Giugiaro Design Works in Turin, Italy.
The Mustang concept's 4.6 liter V-8 engine includes an intercooled, twin screw supercharger, and Ford GT fuel injectors. This increases output to about 500 hp. Ford Racing gave up new dampers, springs, and anti-roll bars to the concept. Overall, the car rides about an inch and a half lower than the production Mustang GT.
Our take? It seems that Italian car designers can also add to the myth of one of America's favorite cars. Look out for more shots for the concept from the LA Auto Show.
