Motor Trend announced that the redesigned Toyota Camry is Motor Trend’s 2007 Car of the Year. Actually the award goes to the entire Camry range, said Motor Trend. That includes the Camry hybrid.
According to Motor Trend, the competition for the Camry for the honor of car of the year included the Chevrolet Aveo; Chrysler Sebring; Dodge Caliber; Honda Fit; Hyundai Elantra and Entourage; Infiniti G35; Jaguar XK; Jeep Compass; Kia Optima, Rondo, and Sedona; Lexus ES 350 and LS 460; Mercedes Benz S Class; Nissan Altima, Sentra, and Versa; Porsche Cayman; Saturn Aura and Sky Redline; Suzuki SX4; Toyota Yaris; Volvo C70T5; and Volkswagen EOS and Rabbit.
Motor Trend has been evaluating vehicles for the honor of Car of the Year each year since 1949. Decisions are based on three categories -- significance, superiority, and value, said Motor Trend. Significance refers to innovation in engineering, technology, design, safety, and packaging. The category of superiority seeks out leading levels of vehicle dynamics and performance and how well the vehicle performs. Value refers to what the vehicle delivers in relation to what the consumer has to pay for it.
To be eligible to be Car of the Year, a vehicle must be totally new or redesigned and released in the 12 month period prior to January 1, 2007.
