Nissan Bevel Joins Rogue at upcoming Detroit Auto Show

Nissan Motor Co. had previously announced it will debut a new SUV at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next month.

Called the “Rogue”, there’s been scant detail except for a drawing (pictured). Nissan did not even mention it at the second 2006 Los Angeles Auto Show earlier this month.

Well, Nissan is upping interest in the concept. The automaker has announced that the Rogue will be joined by another concept, the Bevel. From what little’s said in the press release, the Bevel will be either another small SUV or hatchback vehicle. It’s a pure concept, though: there’s no mention of it going on sale while the Rogue, on the other hand, goes on sale later next year.

Our take? It’ll be interesting if Nissan tops Honda’s Step Up or Mazda’s stunning Nagare. Are the days where automakers could actually surprise the Internet-savvy press and public returning? We hope so.

NASHVILLE (Dec. 8, 2006) – Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) today announced that it will preview two new vehicles at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit in early January – the Nissan Rogue crossover sport utility vehicle and an advanced design study called the Nissan Bevel.

The all-new Rogue is Nissan’s first entry into the small crossover segment.  It is scheduled to go on sale in fall 2007 as a 2008 model and joins Nissan’s lineup of advanced crossover and sport utility vehicles that includes Armada, Pathfinder, Xterra and Murano.  The dramatically styled Rogue offers exceptional handling, all-wheel drive capability and an interior space that combines innovation and versatility.

Also making its world debut in Detroit is the Nissan Bevel Concept, a dynamic, multi-purpose vehicle with a small size, big utility and fresh thinking – including a function-inspired design, a “command central” cockpit and high-utility interior.  The Bevel Concept was created at Nissan Design America, La Jolla, Calif.
