Remember the Jeep Gladiator? The concept, shown at the 2005 Detroit Auto Show, was another attempt by Jeep to enter the pickup market. While response was generally positive, Chrysler admits there are no plans to build a production model due to the unique platform.

But that doesn’t mean the Gladiator has hung up its shield and sword. Crave Garage posts a report that a disguised Wrangler-like pickup vehicle has been spotted poorly disguised in the streets of Detroit. Rumor has it that DaimlerChrysler plans to display the concept at next month’s SEMA show. Interestingly, if built, the production version will be sold as a 2007 mode while kits offered for those who want to modify their 1997-2006 Wranglers?

Our take? We’er not exactly sure if there’s a market for these vehicles besides hardcore Jeep enthusiasts. Is it competing against the Ford Explorer Sport Trac? Honda Ridgeline? The exterior is decidingly retro which may be either enhance its appeal or turn potential consumers off. We’ll be closely watching the crowds at SEMA when this concept’s unveiled.
