Many Lotus enthusiasts, who have been wondering where their beloved Esprit has been, can now rejoice as their years of consistent questioning and begging for a new Esprit is reward: Lotus has finally given the Esprit a green light for production in 2009.
The Lotus Esprit series has been Lotus’s Claim to fame and possibly its most popular production model of all time. For the past few years, production of the Esprit has been put to a halt for R&D on the Elise and Exige.
Details are still scarce. The engine will be rear-mounted of course; however, there is not much information out about what engines will be available. Sources say Lotus will go with either a 4.4 liter engine or a 4.8 BMW engine given a little Lotus tweak. Along with the Esprit in 2008, there will be a convertible/roadster Esprit option offered for the first time ever.
Prices are expected to be around $130,000.
