General Motors has announced that a right-hand-drive version of the Hummer H3 will be going on sale in the UK by the summer of 2007 at a price tag of approximately £27,000 ($50,276).
The mid-size SUV will compete directly with the Nissan Pathfinder for the hard-earned pounds of British off-road aficionados. Given that sales volume is expected to be low, the lineup will most likely be limited to one model that is similar to the U.S. H3 Luxury model that features leather seats, optional chrome wheels, and an upgraded stereo system.
The H3 will be powered by the 3.0l turbo-diesel found in the Isuzu Rodeo that puts out 155 horsepower and 258lb-ft of torque and mated to either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic gearbox. A petrol (gasoline) engine version may be added in the future.
The European H3 will be built at GM's plant in Struandale, South Africa, and will be the only right-hand-drive Hummer at least for the time being.
Our take? GM is trying to take Hummer global and the H3 is its best shot at succeeding since the H2 is too big for most markets. It’s just too bad that GM doesn’t sell the diesel version in the US.
