Mitsubishi to bring new Evo at 2007 Detroit Motor Show

Though the new Eclipse has been selling well despite mixed review from the press, it is the Mitsubishi “Evo”, or Lancer Evolution, that many enthusiasts have been scouring the Internet for information.

Well, that wait will soon be over. Mitsubishi Motor Corp. notified the press that it will debut its Lancer Evolution X prototype at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next year.

The automaker has already displayed the “Concept X” (pictured) at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show. Considered by many as the next Evo, the all-wheel drive sedan is powered by a twin-turbo engine reported to generate up to 300 horsepower. The design is more curved and modern than the current model with slanted headlights that would not look out of place on a Mazda. Mitsubishi is also toying with the idea of dropping the Lancer prefix from the car and simply call it the Mitsubishi Lancer.

The automaker also plans to display “a new concept car, details of which are being kept secret for now.”

Our take? It’s about time.
