Though the Los Angeles Auto Show is still months away, entries for the show, especially for the Design Challenge, are beginning to appear across the Internet.
The theme for this year’s Challenge is environmental harmony and friendliness. Mercedes-Benz’s entry is the “RECY”, a two-seater roadster. Based on an interpretation of the SL-Class, the sheetmetal makes the car look like it’s made of wood and, in fact, wood, alloy, and other recycled material is used in its construction.
Engine details, if any, for the RECY are not provided and may not even be included. Other entries include the MINI BioMoke and HUMMER O2.
Our take? We continue to feel the auto industry is undergoing a renaissance as continued consumer interest in the environment continue to exert pressure on the automakers for more eco-friendly cars. The RECY and the Tesla electric roadster, though, show being green does not mean a loss of power or style.
