Lotus announced on Tuesday (09/27) that the supercharged edition of its Exige coupe was going to be sold in the United States at a price of $56,990

In addition to the exceptional handling dynamics that Lotus is famous for, the Exige S is powered by a supercharged version of its 1.8L four-cylinder engine that puts out 220 horsepower and 165lb-ft of torque, an increase of 30hp and 32lb-ft over the regular Exige. This added power will propel the Exige S from 0-60 in 4.1 seconds, an improvement of almost an entire second.

The Exige S will also be differentiated cosmetically from the regular Exige. The rear wing, front splitter, and side intakes are painted body color instead of black, while a single exhaust pipe replaces the twin pipe style.

Production numbers will be limited, so those desiring an Exige S should expect to see long waiting lists and steep dealer markups

Our take? Lotus has been making incredible cars for some time now and the Exige S continues that while throwing in something extra. Of course, like all other Lotuses, you wouldn't want to use one as a daily driver.
