For young and old alike, box cars are all that

Proving the old adage that what goes around comes around, boxed shaped vehicles like the old Woodies may have been rediscovered by a whole new generation of car buyers.
According to USA Today, dealers for such SUVs or crossovers as the Scion xB, Honda Element, and Chevrolet’s HHR are hard pressed to match their supplies to buyer demand. BMW’s MINI brand, especially, has had a difficult time keep stock of its MINI Coopers.
The unique shape, compared to most vehicles on the road today, are what draw such buyers. The younger generation also find it more practical to transport more passengers comfortably in cube-shaped vehicles than regular sedans or coupes. Finally, while boxy SUVs like the HUMMER or FJ Cruiser are riding the new trend, it’s the smaller vehicles that are receiving the lion's share of interest.
Our take? Are today’s Element and xB (which is due to be replaced) this generation’s version of the minivan? Interestingly, most box-like SUVs like the Mazda Tribute are being quietly retired and replaced by more sleek crossovers.
