Would more women increase automakers’ bottom line?

Ask Patty takes on the issue of decreasing car sales by asking, and answering, if the addition of “female energy” from more women employees could be the solution the automakers’ so desperately need.

First, Lorraine Schultz, founder and CEO of the Women's Automotive Association International, found it not only difficult to secure a female salesperson, but encountered stereotypical tactics from the salesmen..

Author Candie Leigh White left selling cars, disgusted with the lack of communication which she saw in the technological industry. She relays, though, not only the desire for “female energy” within the industry, but how many people, regardless of sex, desire such “lack of fear” when shopping for a new or used car.

Our take? White’s solution is well-known and has been attempted in many luxury brands and Saturn. Unfortunately, unless there’s little chance for the rest to change unless dealerships’ domination of sales and the desperate “cut throat” mentality among salespersons, who work on strict commission, are dramatically changed.
