If you’re considering purchasing the Jeep Commander, make sure to check the blind spots carefully during the test drive.

According to Consumer Report, the SUV had the longest “blind zone” among their tested vehicles. The Commander’s zone was 69 feet from the vehicle’s rear bumper for a driver 5 feet 1 inch. Previously, the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche had the longest zone at 51 feet for a similar driver. The magazine reports that, among mid-sized and large SUVs, the Commander’s was considerably larger than usual.

Note that the Commander has rearview cameras available. DaimlerChrysler, which owns Jeep, stated the Commander had been tested extensively by the company as well as other independent organizations where it has performed well. It will, though, consider CR’s findings.
